Notifications

Notifications can give people timely and important information while on the system. For example, notifications can signal when an event is about to occur, new data is available, or there’s a status change or system error.

People appreciate receiving a notification for something they care about, but they don’t always appreciate being interrupted. Build trust by accurately representing the urgency of each notification.

The console will provide users with a consolidated and preference-driven notification center.

Designing a Great Notification Experience

  • Aim to provide rich, high-value information that people can understand at a glance.

  • Provide context for the notification content with a succinct title.

  • Write succinct, easy-to-read notification content. Use complete sentences, sentence cases, and proper punctuation, and don’t truncate your message. The key here is for these to be easily understandable, actionable messages to the user. Do not just place in default system error messages.

  • Provide one clear actionable link or a dismissal icon.

  • Don’t include sensitive, personal, or confidential information in a notification.

  • Avoid sending multiple notifications for the same thing!
